According to Schultz, “personality is one of our most important assets.” (p. 2).  I feel our culture and family have the biggest influence on our personalities.  Our standards for personality should resemble the one who created us; because without God we will only continue to display our own feelings which suits our own selfish desires.  Personalities can be unstable but when linked with the holy spirit they become stable and balanced.  Our personality should reflect the fruits of the spirit and should be linked the same way as the trinitarian of God. John Wooden once stated that, “personality is what you seem to be, but character is what you really are.”  God knew us and had a purpose for each one of us before we even came out of the womb.  “Our personality is formed on the basis of the unique relationships we have as children with various people and objects.  As individuals “we develop our own set of character attributes, a consistent pattern of behavior that defines us.” (Schultz, 2017 p. 51).  Philippians 4:8 NIV states, “Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things. As Christians the devil attacks our mind and if we aren’t in tune (linked) with the Holy Spirit we act in our flesh. Being introverted makes it easy to experience mental illness issues such as depression and suicide, but the Holy Spirit encourages us and gives me hope. The majority of my life I have been insecure because of abuse in my life.  As a result of the abuse I lost my identity and I changed my personality trying to be who people wanted me to be.  I was very codependent and was trying to please everyone, but God.  Gifts of the Holy Spirit, (2017 says that, “God gave us a gift as Christians and an advocate to help and be with you forever, the spirit of truth. (para. 1).  With God and help of the Holy Spirit I was able to be more confident and less insecure about myself. I understand and believe that only believers can be spiritually alive, and unbelievers are spiritually dead. This is why I do believe also that the spirit is linked to our personality, but only when the person is a believer of Christ.  The spirit is the importance in humanity which gives us the ability to have an intimate relationship with God.  “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead,” (James 2:26 NIV). It is our attitude in the spiritual sense that is faith in action.  In Hebrews 11, God parted the Red Sea for believers and the Egyptians (unbelievers) tried to cross and drowned. We are in a spiritual warfare and God has provided all the spiritual tools we need to fight the enemy. God is control over both the spirit and the personality.  According to Saucy (2014), “the spirit in the new covenant that pours the love of God to deepest levels of the individuals heart.” (p. 353). “Create in me a clean heart, O God and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10 NIV).Conclusion I don’t claim to have a full understanding of how the spirit and personality are linked.  I’m just going off my own personal experience with Christ and the readings.  I am learning to better my character by building an intimate relationship with God everyday.  Our standards for personality should resemble the one who created us; because without God we will only continue to display our own feelings which suits our own selfish desires.
