As indicated in a book of English Language Education Policy in Asia, this is the overview of the development of the English language in Thailand from the past to the present status in Thailand. This study correlated to the introduction of education reform through the National Education Act (NEA) of 1999, the Ministry of Education in Thailand. The Municipal is keen to improve the education standards in Thailand at all levels. Regardless of age, range, religions, socio-economic class and gender. Furthermore, to prepare the nation to be called ready to compete with other nations in the era of globalization and fast changing. Nowadays English language aggressively used as a standard language in conversing with people from every corner of the world. Hence, emphasis on English language skills acquisition is stressed. The reform investigates a wide range of efforts, initiatives, national policies and education reforms that demonstrate Thailand’s willingness to compete in English language skills internationally. Plus, Thailand is famous for the commerce and trading sectors, therefore English language plays a major role in their social fabric of life. This situation coincides with the current status quo of English language in Thailand that English hold the status of ‘de facto’ second language of Thailand (Baker, 2012). It is widely used as a compulsory academic subject in higher education, as a medium of instruction in international education programs, as the language of international organizations and conferences, and the language for international business transactions, tourism, global media and advertising, science and technology, and international law as well. Next, good acquisition in the English language allows the Thais the chance to trial teaching as a career option. Those who enjoy teaching are benefits from their experiences and could foresee themselves to teach for a longer term. They even can continue on in their current position. Furthermore, if ones can acquire the English language very well, they can serve as a stepping stone to a full-on teaching career. After a few years of teaching English, some people enrolled in a year-long teaching certificate course, which adds a teaching credential to an existing bachelor’s degree holder . The channel is through sitting or the examination called TEFL. Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) is the term applied to the teaching of English to non-native speakers in native English-speaking countries. It is conducted by British Council for all ASEAN countries for standard grading marks in the English Language as a channel for the netizen to qualified in teaching the English language. With an internationally recognized teaching certificate, the candidates are qualified to teach a vast plain full of subjects at an international school in Thailand. Therefore, English language is a prominent ingredient in Thailand upbringing.
